TRAVELOGUE: Trip to Havasu City, Arizona

So it’s the final weekend of April 2019 and it is Desert Storm time! Hubby and I went out to our vacation home and to see all of the gorgeous boats.

We arrived on Wednesday evening only to see a small parade of 30-40 ft boats driving down Hwy 95. Hard to believe these things are so beautiful and yet so very loud. Not much time to do anything but go to the local spot for dinner: Shagrue’s. It’s a great local spots, a little on the high end, but very good food! We got a table at the window overlooking the London Bridge and the Channel. It was just lovely. We got to see a couple of boats on the water in the evening with the lights on.

So back to the boats. Thursday from 1:00-9:00pm, the boulevard is just crazy with people walking up and down the streets of Downtown Lake Havasu looking at the awesome boats. All the local vendors are open as well as bars and restaurants. We tooled around town a while then went to dinner at Barley Bros. Restaurant. Oddly enough, it’s a sister company to Shagrue’s. More of a brewery type place. Again, on the Channel. Very good food.

Friday, there’s a parade of these massive behemoths going through the Channel and under the London Bridge from 11:00-11:30 am. After that, there will be a Poker Run and the boats will be picking up cards through various stops on the lake. So hubby had a hankerin’ for some Mexican Food so we ditty bopped over to Casa Serrano for some Pork Carnitas Fajitas, yum! For a great price, too! It was the special of the night and delicious (Can you guess, I’m a bit of a foodie?).

Saturday is the big day! The Desert Storm Shootout! From around 9:00am to 4:00pm the boat drivers start near Site Six (a local launch ramp) and go south. It is a sight to see for sure. You know, one of the things to really look at besides the boats…the trucks they tow them with! Oh my! These things are ginormous. Some of them look like big rigs! Some of them are even painted to match the boats. Man, these people really get into boating. Another great extended weekend but, time to go home. We had a great time. The people and the locals are great. Lake Havasu is a beautiful lake that has a lot of coves to explore. Be sure to stop next time you’re in the area. Stay tuned for my next adventure. Who knows where we will go next? A little birdie told me it may involve water…
